To ensure the quality of our Agapanthus range, we started our own breeding program many years ago. Through diligent effort, a lot of care and precision, we’ve developed a range of Amourette® varieties that we lovingly present to our customers. This also resulted in the Amourette® Superb , the Amourette® of the pinnacle of excellence.

Care tips

Below are the care tips for the Agapanthus Amourette®.
With these tips, you will enjoy this beautiful plant even longer!

An Agapanthus is a real sun worshipper and particularly suitable as a pot plant for the patio or balcony. After purchasing the Agapanthus, plant it as soon as possible in a spacious pot with a soil mixture suitable for pot and patio plants. Provide a watering edge so that the plant can easily be maintained wet. Use a pot with a hole for drainage.

During budburst and flowering, the Agapanthus requires plenty of water, otherwise the plant will develop yellow leaves. The Agapanthus can tolerate a dry period well, but regularity will benefit the plant.  When purchased, the plant is well fertilised. After flowering, it is wise to fertilise the plant monthly with a standard plant food for pot and patio plants.

Like all tub and patio plants, an Agapanthus can be kept over well.

The plant’s dormant period begins in October, when extra watering and fertilising is not necessary. However, the plant is not hardy and must be protected from severe frost. As soon as the frost period begins, let the plant overwinter in a light frost-free spot.

If the plant gets too big, it can be split after flowering (August/September). In that case, you should also use a good potting soil mixture.

After the winter season, it’s time to reintroduce the plant to the outdoors. If the plant has been adequately overwintered in a cool environment, you should start noticing new buds emerging by late May or early June. Once the plant is back outside, make sure to fertilize it generously using standard fertilizer and ensure the soil in the pot remains consistently moist. During the spring, it’s important to be cautious about late-night frosts, as Agapanthus plants are quite sensitive to them. In such cases, frost protection measures should still be in place to safeguard your plant.

The flowering time of a “surviving” Agapanthus is late July early August.
