Magical Place!

5/5 - October, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

I stayed in room 203 in early Oct '18. View from the room wasn't great but apart from that I could not complain about anything. From the reception staff, restaurant staff to the cleaning ladies, we couldn't have been looked after any better. The hotel is magnificant & I have to give a special mention to the staff in the Spa - I had the most amazing facial from Stefanie! The breakfast, included freshly squeezed orange juice & precesso EVERY morning but I have to say the hot plates could have been a bit warmer, but there was a fantastic variety of foods. Had evening meal in restaurant on our last night & we both had fillet steak & it was the best we ever had! We also did a greek cookery course which was great fun!! Will definately be back.

Highly recommended

This is a lovely hotel and ticked all the boxes for us. We had a junior suite and we loved that it was on 2 levels. Plenty of storage space in the room and robes/slippers, kettle with tea and coffee also provided. We loved how comfortable the pillows are. We had an inland view which we didn't mind as it was lovely and quiet at night.

The staff were exceptional, very professional and there to help with anything at all. Manos who works on the bar at night was very knowledgeable on the area and very helpful. He also helped arrange an evening for us at a restaurant up at the top of the hill called Astrea which was a lovely meal the food was cooked perfectly. Sadly we went to say goodbye to Manos the night before we were leaving but it was his day off.

We loved the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel and the location is fantastic. There is a bus stop outside the hotel on the opposite side of the road to the right. And also a taxi rank. Buses to chania were only 1.80 euro each way and it is such a lovely place definately a must see. If you walk either way outside the hotel there is plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from even down the side streets, up the hills and and down the beach.

Thank you thalassa for such a lovely holiday, we will be back next year!

Home from Home

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Arriving at the Thalassa Beach Resort was like arriving home, after a spell away, with the added benefit of guaranteed sunshine.
I must be completely honest and say up front that this is my fourth visit to this hotel, having first come here in 2015. It is also 30 years since I first started coming to Crete for my holidays. I retired over a decade ago and prior to that had lots of different experiences staying in hotels on business. What I require from a hotel is a peaceful, restful environment with good service from the staff when required.
Let me elaborate just a little on that last sentence. The requirements are no different for a holiday hotel experience and I also like to feel as relaxed as if at home – maybe more so – with the comfort of knowing, if needed, help is at hand, without intrusiveness or over fussiness. The Thalassa Beach Resort offers that all in abundance. The atmosphere is relaxed and very friendly with your comfort considered at all stages.
Eating is catered for throughout the day with breakfast being an extravaganza of varieties of food that should satisfy the early day needs of all but the extremely demanding gastronome. Put simply, lots of choice and as much as you can eat from the buffet breakfast. Should that not be suffice room service of various menus is available to order, for a charge. The buffet breakfast is just fine. Add to that the relaxed but efficient service form the restaurant staff throughout that meal.
A La Carter dining is available in the evening, with snacks or full meals available from lunchtime until 4:00p.m. at the Ouzaki. You can safely stay and eat throughout the day at the hotel, though for me visiting many different tavernas is a part of visiting Crete. The outside bar is available throughout the day and evening to slake your thirst with whatever is to your taste – soft and alcoholic drinks.
I have really only commented on the issues of what a lot of people consider to be important for a holiday. The crowning glory for me is the atmosphere, helpfulness, friendliness and efficiency of the staff – without exception – from the room maids, chefs, waiters, bar staff right through to the managers. All make the holiday just right .
I said at the start “Arriving at the Thalassa Beach Resort was like arriving home”. A wonderful home from home. I hesitate in saying that because I worry that it will encourage too many people to want to stay there and I might lose out. Just as well I have already booked for 2019.

Our second visit to this lovely hotel

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

My fiancé and I stayed here last year and liked it so much we came back this year. Normally we like to try different islands and resorts but we enjoyed staying here so much we decided to come back. The breakfast is fantastic, a huge choice of Greek and continental food such as fresh juices, cheese, meats, fruits, eggs made to order etc. The staff are all really friendly and the rooms are great. A big comfy bed, lots of wardrobe space and a decent bathroom. There are always plenty of sunbeds by the pool or on the beach. The beach isn’t the best as there are lots of big rocks so getting into the sea can be a bit difficult , but that’s probably the only thing that we didn’t love about the hotel...and they have a lovely pool to cool off in anyhow. We had lunch at the hotel every other day and the salads are delicious in a lovely setting overlooking the sea. We ate out in the evening as it’s nice to go for a wander out of the hotel. We found the best restaurants aren’t on the main strip. Our favourites are Nostros and Rustic Garden. There is a bus stop outside the hotel with regular buses to Chania which is worth a visit as the area around the old port is beautiful with some lovely restaurants in the side streets. Would definitely come back as this is such a lovely hotel for the price with such great staff.

Excellent service

5/5 - September, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

I was impressed with hotel interior, cleanliness, pleasant and polite staff, location, food, room and of course, beach. Initially we spent 2 nights in the 2 level room which was a novelty for me. The room had stairs and the bedroom was upstairs. I had to move closer to my sister, therefore we preferred to exchange the room to a more simple one which by the way was even better. I am still raving about this hotel. The only thing I would change is not signing up for a-la-carte dinner. Not because the dinners were not good. They were excellent, and the waiters were going beyond to please everybody. It's about time.
Usual dinner takes 2-3 hours. While it may be normal for some people on vacation for us it was not, since it cut out 30 hours of our vacation time. Next time we will not sign up for a-la-carte, but eat outside where they have plenty of wonderful taverns with faster services. Otherwise, it was one of the best hotels in the last 9 years of our vacationing abroad.

A perfect vacation

5/5 - August, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

The hotel part - quiet and relaxing atmosphere, excellent service - I slept like a baby.
Extremely polite staff, ready to fulfill your wishes at all times.
The restaurant staff, the pool bar and the Ouzaki restaurant worked hard and immediately performed our orders with a smile.
Delicious food.
As a general - perfect service. I would recommend it to friends and acquaintances

Generally an ideal week in paradise

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We stayed as a couple in June.

Positives:
-The room (Junior Suite) was spacious, well air conditioned and impeccably clean. Big props to the maids.
- The staff were for the most part a perfect mix of friendly and professional.
- The Pool area was beautiful, there was never an issue finding a sunbed and the canopy-like loungers were a dream when the sun was too strong for two pale Icelanders :p
- The Pool Bar has good food, quick and friendly service, so does the official restaurant.
- Being so close to the ocean was amazing, lounging near a pool but hearing the ocean waves was an added bonus.
- This being an adults-only hotel made the whole experience very peaceful, just what we had been looking for!

Negatives (Just nitpicking)
- The gentleman who checked us out didn't bid us farewell or thank us for our stay, having worked for years in the hotel industry ourselves it was an oddly cold note to be left on. An employee from the bar however saw us leave and waved enthusiastically :) Most of the staff, as I said, are amazing.

- There is another hotel right next to the Thalassa, which does allow children. Sometimes being separated from them by just a hedge wasn't enough and noise would bleed into the Thalassa garden, but this depended greatly on our positioning.

- We had a Junior Suite with a Mountain view, be aware that the mountain view itself is spectacular, however your more intimate view is that of a supermarket and a car dealership for instance. We had a JS on a single floor and given the view asked to see another one (as all photos and descriptions we had read mentioned the 2-floor JS with the dome-ceiling). Turns out we greatly preferred our original one (Kiki and the gentleman who checked us IN were both amazing help here), the supermarket view didn't bother us in the end, and the room was SO spacious!!
One thing I still disliked about it, was that the bidet was too close to the bathtub/shower. It leaves a very tiny space where you can safely enter/exit the bath without knocking into either the bidet or the shower wall. A very small negative, but I'm a relatively small person (albeit clumsy) so I can imagine this being a larger issue for larger people.

All in all a lovely stay, efcharisto, we will surely return one day <3

Awesome hotel with very good service

5/5 - July, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We really enjoyed on our holiday. Room was clean and service was brilliant. Pool bar with good drinks made a holiday very enjoyable. Restaurant workers were very kind and helpful. Beach was a little "rocky", but there was also sandy. Cold drinks with sun.

Peaceful contentment

5/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We stayed at this hotel the second week in June and loved it . We usually stay in places that are a town and not a linear beach resort as Marina is so were a bit reserved before our arrival. However on arrival the warm welcome but cool foyer of the hotel made us feel instantly contented.
The hotel is located on the edge of Aghia Marina almost into Platanias, but really both resorts run into each other along the road. There are restaurants and gift shops all along the road but the Platanias end has slightly more bustle about it . The bus stop only a few mins from the hotel takes you to Chania in about 25 mins for under 2 euros . The trip is easy with conductors on the bus selling tickets and helping to ensure you get off at the right stop. Chania old town and the amazing Venetian harbour are a 5 min stroll from the bus station. Chania is lovely both the harbour with its water front cafes and the winding back streeets. The trip in is so easy with buses there every 15 mins and back every 30 that you can go in for just half a day or for the evening. It’s well worth the trip.
Buses the other way take you to the other resorts but they are smaller and the beaches not as good.
Talking of beaches the hotel leads straight to the beach and has sun beds for guests at no extra charge . The beach is gritty sand with some rocks as you enter the sea, beach shoes are a good idea! It was windy and the sea a bit choppy during our stay so we didn’t swim .. However we made great use of the hotels lovely pool , sun beds and day beds and always managed to find one free.
We paid extra for a sea view having seen other Crete hotels with views over the back of restaurants but the non sea view rooms were mainly overlooking the well kept gardens . Our room was exactly as described, bright, light , very clean with brilliant air conditioning. The bed was huge with quality linens and pillows. The fridge and safe were inclusive in the price and the tea and coffee facilities topped up daily. I bought fresh milk from the supermarket opposite for decent tea every morning.
We stayed half board and the food was superb . Breakfast was the usual fare but well topped up and plenty Greek specialities. The orange juice was fresh and there was Greek fizz. It was simply heaven eating breakfast on the restaurant terrace ! Dinner was waiter service and consisted of 5 courses and a glass of fizz with desert. The choice was small but enough and the portions not huge but put together with the fantastic sunsets , quality and taste of the food and the amazing service every meal was a delight. The wine list was extensive with many Greek ones to choose from , the manager will guide you to some great choices if like usyou need some help,
The pool bar offers snacks and full meals, we ate lunch there most days as the Greek and Cretan salads were fantastic and the same price as the other local bars so why go to far especially as you are sitting practically on the beach. The cocktails were well executed and not the sugary creamy sickly drinks you get in some places, any left in the cocktail shaker became shots for other customers and it certainly encouraged me to sample a few !
There were many returning clients staying at the Thalassa Beach and I can see why . If you want a great hotel with a friendly calm atmosphere right on the beach in a non neon resort with superb servicee and food this is the place for you. See you next year Thalassa Beach !

Lovely Relaxing Holiday

5/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

We stayed here for 10 days and had the best holiday, the hotel is family run and the staff are all so friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble.

Our room was spotlessly clean with the softest, fluffiest towels I've ever seen. Whilst we had a 'twin' room the bed was actually zipped together to make a king size which was perfect for us. We had everything we needed and spent many evenings sat on the balcony watching the sun go down with a glass of wine.

Breakfast was nice with a good selection of fresh fruit and yogurt, or you could get freshly cooked eggs / omelettes while you wait, they also served fizz at breakfast which was a nice treat.

Around the pool was a really relaxed atmosphere, plenty of sunbeds and more on the private beach area so there was never a shortage of places to sit, being handed a slice of watermelon at noon and a cold towel was really welcome on hot days. My husband particularly liked the Bali beds at the side of the pool for an afternoon nap. The pool was clean and warm (better in the afternoon) and the swim-up bar was very popular late afternoon.

We ate lunch at the beach bar a few times and the food and service always excellent, unfortunately we didn't get to eat at the hotel but whenever we passed by it was always busy.

This hotel is great base to explore the rest of the area, there are so many excellent restaurants to eat at and plenty of nice bars too. You can even get the bus into Chania which about 30/45 minutes and costs around €1.80 each, its well worth a visit exploring all the maze of streets with lovely local shops, you are also left to browse at your leisure an not feel pressured. If you prefer to go a bit further afield then I would recommend hiring a car as the bus does get quite full and hot.

I would highly recommend this hotel for a nice relaxing adults only holiday and will look to return in a few years time.

A quality hotel with lovely staff.

5/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

Arrived for a four night stay early on Sunday morning, although we were a lot earlier than our check in time as our room was ready we were able to check in immediately. We were greeted by a friendly and helpful receptionist who explained all about the hotel. The hotel is of a very high standard with exceptional staff, everyone greets you and has a smile.
The room was great with very comfortable beds and pillows, efficient air conditioning and a flat screen TV & DVD, (although there are limited UK channels. We were in a standard room so just faced other rooms, but there was a small garden below. There was not a lot of sun on the balcony, but this was quite nice after a day of sunbathing. Mini fridge in the room and the hotel allows you to keep your own drinks in it.
The pool and beach area is great with no shortage of beds and being an adult only hotel has a very calm atmosphere.
We were bed and breakfast and the choices are vast with a selection of cooked items, fruit yogurts, pastries and delicious breads.
The hotel is very well located with lots of supermarkets, bars and restaurants within minutes.
Pool bar is great and not over priced. Most days a waiter came round with refreshing complimentary watermelon. There is not a lot of evening entertainment but we saw a very good guitar duet one evening.
My sister used the spa facility and said her massage was very relaxing.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quality hotel, with great facilities and fantastic staff.

Clean, relaxing and high-class adults only hotel

5/5 - June, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

The hotel was really well managed, all staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the atmosphere really relaxing and calm. The hotel is adults only, which was not a criteria for us, but ended up being a good choice as it meant a lot of quietness by the pool. The breakfast buffet was really good, the rooms were clean and quite nice in general. The location at Agia Marina is pretty ok, but I would say that if I could now choose, I would probably prefer the village of Platanias, as there were a lot more restaurants and bars around that area. But depends what you're looking for in your holiday.
Anyway, I definitely recommend this hotel to all couples and/or adults travelling to Chania.

Spring time in a great hotel

4/5 - May, 2018 Tripadvisor.com

This was second time in this hotel. Got the same room by accident. :D
I came here again because the nice location on beach, lovely poolside and very good quality breakfast. Got a great deal in the spring time. Other times can be a little bit expensive. Not a luxury resort but very clean and good quality classical hotel. Would definitely come back again.

Room
Classical designed, reasonably sized room. Safety deposit box and lots of closet space. Loved the tile floors.
Had the room on the main floor by the entrance. Not so good sound proofing. First days there was also a cigarette stink but only in the bathroom. Don’t know if someone had smoked there or did it came outside. You hear the street noises and sounds from a the reception. There is an extra door you can close and it helps a little bit.
Bed is comfy and the linens perfect. The beds isn’t the softest one though. Two pillows is perfect. Got a good night sleep.
Balcony is a good sized. I had a room in the side of the building that hasn’t got a view. Evening sun shines to the balcony and it was perfect. There are some plants in the court but otherwise you see only the parking lot.

Poolside and the beach
Clean and nice pool area. Lots of sun beds and gazeboes beds to choose from. Nice palm trees and soft grass. Nice view to the beach! Big outdoor jacuzzi and pool with a pool bar. Water isn’t heated so the water feels cold in early spring. Very funny man serving drinks in the evening time. :D

The beach is sandy and clean but when you go to the sea there is a smooth stony bottom which can be slippery.
Loved to watch the sunsets in the beach. :)

Breakfast
The best part of the hotel. Lots to choose from. Won’t get bored. The same dishes still exist than it did three years ago. Healthy and fresh food and vegetables and fruits. Good selection of bread. Loved to try the traditional Cretan dishes, cheeses, olives, pastries, etc.

WiFi
Works like a charm in the room and common areas and poolside. There wasn’t so many guest though.

Spa
Love the option that you can use the sauna and jacuzzi indoors before the massage! I was so relaxed! Fell a sleep during massage. The massage was ok. I would like an option of a good sport massage for tight and sore muscles. Loved the guidance in the spa. Didn’t have to worry where to go and how to get to places. Got a very good guidance and info with personnel. :)

Free parking space under the hotel in a garage.

Please take care of the breakfast cat who is going to have kittens soon. :)
