Passiflora x exoniensisThis hybrid was raised on the Veitch Nursery at Exeter around 1870 by crossing P. antioquiensis and P. mollissima but I know that the status of both parents is now in doubt but there is no doubt that this is a very eye catching plant with red hanging umbrellas from mid summer on. An evergreen with large three lobed leaves. Almost hardy but best protected (min -1c). It flowers best in cool conditions. A good cool conservatory plant. Passiflora x exoniensis is a lot hardier than the similar looking parent Passiflora antioquiensis Put out in spring this will produce a whole season of exotic flowers. |
