Hosta 'Cold Heart'

Originated by Alttara Scheer of Connecticut and registered on her behalf by the Registrar, Gayle Hatley Alley for The American Hosta Society in 2019, this cultivar forms an upright growing, large size hosta about 26 inches high by 70 inches wide with a fast growth rate. The leaves are a "strong" yellowish-green with a slightly shiny top, broadly ovate shape, moderate cupping and are wavy overall. Some of the foliage is moderately corrugated. Pale lavender flowers bloom from late June into July on scapes 28 to 30 inches tall followed by viable seeds.

The registration materials state: "...Large mound of bright yellowish-green, ruffled & occasionally corrugated leaves, with deeply impressed veins and white backs. Some convex cupping appears when plant is mature...Parentage Undisclosed."

The originator made the following comment on the Fraternal Order of Seedy Fellows website: "Emerging like frosted lime popsicles, Hosta 'Cold Heart' has rippled and serrated edges on heart shaped leaves with snow white backs. In shade, it maintains it's frosted lime color and in sun the frost will melt and these hearts will glow with renewed passion. Available from Naylor Creek Nursery "
