Common Name: Creeping Thyme

This low maintenance lawn alternative forms a low carpet of delicious lemon scented, dark green leaves smothered in pink flowers from early through midsummer.

It is deer resistant and works well in rock gardens, planted around stepping stones, and at the edge of rock walls.

Though it is listed as being hardy to zone 4, gardeners in colder climates may find it to it be more cold hardy than that.

Creeping thyme is native to hot, dry Mediterranean regions. Consequently it thrives in similar conditions in American gardens. Plant it in full sun and moderately fertile, average to dry, well-drained soil. (Keep plants watered until they are established.) Thyme benefits from occasional shearing after blooming to keep plants full and bushy. It does not need to be divided to stay healthy, but may need to be thinned out to prevent spreading.
