Common Name The Tentacled Pleurothallis [refers to the long, narrow floral parts]

Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in Venezuela, Colombia, Morona-Santiago province of Ecuador and Huanuco department of Peru at elevations of 900 to 1400 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with, smooth, stout, erect ramiucals enveloped by a spotted sheath below the middle and 1 to 2 shorter ones at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute, cuneate below into the sessile to subsessile base leaf that blooms in the late spring and early summer on anerect to pendent, arising and enveloped completely by a reclinig spathe at the base of the leaf, a succesion of single, few flowered inflorescence with a thin, tubular, much shorter than the pedicel floral bract.

"Closely related to P nuda but not at all related to P talipinaria . The ramicauls are smooth with a purple dotted sheath below the middle. The stiff, thick leaf is more or less concave or conduplicate at the sessile base. Large, widely expanded, single flowers, sometimes 2 to 3 simultanelously, are produced on relatively long, flexible pedicels. The sepals are white, minutely dotted with red along the veins. The narrow dorsal sepal is free, the laterals connate into a scaphoid synsepal within which lies the dark purple, tubular lip. the low obtuse, marginal lobes are present above the base. The petals are long-pointed above the basal portion. The flower is very similar to P nuda but differs in the lip with the sides revolute into a tube." Luer 2000
