Common Name The False G atropurpurea Gongora
Flower Size 1 1/2" [4 cm]
Found in Colombia and Peru in tropical rain forests as a small to medium sized, hot to warm growing,caespitose epiphyte with an ovoid, sulcate pseudobulb subtended by 2 loose, scarious sheaths and carrying 2 apical, widely elliptic, acute leaves that are conduplicate at the base forming a short petiole, blooming in the late winter and early spring on a basal, 1' [30 cm] long, pendant, few flowered racemose inflorescence with minute floral bracts and carrying fragrant flowers [clove oil] arising on a mature pseudobulb.
CAUTION I am not sure of which determination above is correct as I have not seen the type publication so please use with caution!!!
Kew puts this one as a synonym of G atropurpurea but I see substantial differencces so have left it separate pending more research.
