This miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphytic species occurs in India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, China, Laos, Vietnam at elevations of 800 to 1500 meters in dry, deciduous forests in exposed locations or in evergreen, broadleaved montane forests with spindle-shaped, 6 noded pseudobulbs arising in a cluster and having red-edged sheaths that yellow with age and carry deciduous, ligulate, or lanceolate, acuminate, rather laxly held leaves has an axillary, erect, 2.4" [6 cm] long, racemose, few flowered inflorescence with the racemes arising from the nodes near the apex of the leafless canes and carrying fragrant short lived flowers and appears in the later winter and spring.

This species is separated from D braianense by the deciduous leaves at blooming and the shorter, erect, few flowered inflorescence
