Found in Peru in humus mats in cloud forests at elevations around 2750 meters as a large sized, cold growing terrestrial with a short, ascending stem carrying elliptic, abruptly acuminate, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, terminal, to 16" [65 cm] long, racemose, many flowered inflorescence with distant bracts and linear-lanceolate, acuminate, slightly shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying numerous, non resupinate flowers.
