.: E900 Hardware Mods :.
Here will hopefully be a collection of guides and pictures to
creating E900 compatible hardware mods. These are not for the faint hearted, and
will usually involve getting your hands dirty with a soldering iron!

.: USB Cable Mod :.
Warning: This is
highly NOT Recommended!
It was only a short time between Xlabs opening the E900 and then making his
first hardware mod! Here is a hardware mod
for the standard Samsung E900 USB cable (PCB200BBE). After looking through the
E900 schematics in the Service Manual, Xlabs realised that the voltage from the
charger is at pins 19-20, and the pin besides it is the USB voltage which is 5
volts too, namely pin 18. This means that if pin 18 (the USB voltage) could be
shorted to the charger voltage then it would be possible to draw power through
the USB cable and charge your phone. The pictures below show this happening,
with a very small wire between pins 18 and 19.
Click to see the images full screen (Warning, these are the original size of 2048x1536).
This picture shows the USB cable in
action, charging the phone.
This shows the attempt 1, with the small wire on top on the pins (on the
left).
This shows the attempt 2, with the wire in between the slots. This prevents
pins from being bent.
