The Garden of Sofiero

  The entrance of "Sofiero Slott"

The Azaleas and Rhododendrons blooming in May or June.

Sofiero is the palace where our former king GustavVIAdolf spent the summer. His first wife came from England and she introduced the English type of garden here in Sweden. When GustavVIAdolf died the palace was donated to the town Helsingborg. The garden is open every day (entrance) and sometimes you can see the inside of the palace too. The garden is known for its marvellous Rhododendron Valley. King Gustav Adolf was very interesting in developing new sorts of Rhododendron.
Nowadays the rest of the flower garden is changed to look more simillar to Margaretha´s style.
Margaretha was very interested in taking photos and she was an excellent artist. You can see photos of some of her oilpaintings in the mainor house.

My Paintings

In 1996 I made my first oilpainting from Sofiero. We went throw the valleys in August, but late in summer there are no Rhododendron bushes blooming. So I painted trees with wax oil sticks and solution.

In "orangeriet" a new building with one glass wall and glass roof you will find a lot of beautiful butterflies, most of them coming from England by air mail. Some of them are restless flying around and some of them will let you come near enough to take their portrait..
