MX-90845D4 8.4 GB Hard Drive Jumper Setting

Caution Only authorized service personnel should upgrade the system. Anyone who wants to upgrade the system themselves should know about the dangers of ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) and the necessary precautions. Unknowingly zapping the components of the computer will void the warranty.

Use Extreme CAUTION

There is a real danger of electric shock from exposed electrical components inside the computer chassis. It is advisable to have a certified computer technician to install and configure hard disk drives.

  1. Turn the system OFF.
  2. Install the cylinder limitation jumper (J46) on the drive. The figure below shows the Maxtor hard drive configured as a Master or Slave device with the cylinder limitation jumper installed.
IMPORTANT:
When the Cylinder Limitation jumper (J46) is installed, the Maxtor hard drive must be prepared using MaxBlast™ installation software.

Jumper Configuration

The 4092 Cylinder Limitation Explained

Older BIOS' that auto-configure the hard disk drives, may hang when the cylinder value exceeds 4096. What the 4096 Cylinder Limitation jumper does is reduce the capacity in the Identify Drive to 4096, allowing larger capacity drives to work with older BIOS'. For this to happen a software driver is needed to access the full drive capacity.
