#022 Fearow
Pokédex Info
Type 1: Normal
Type 2: Flying
Height: 3' 11"
Weight: 84.0 lb
A Pokémon that dates back many years. If it senses danger, it flies high and away, instantly.
Catch it in:

Evolved from: Spearow (at level 20) Evolves into: -
Locations: Catch Fearow in all versions on Routes 17, 18, 23, or evolve it from a Spearow. Additionally, Yellow players will encounter Fearow on Routes  9 and 16.
This Pokémon naturally learns the following techniques:
LV 01 - Peck
LV 01 - Growl
LV 09 - Leer
LV 15 - Fury Attack
LV 25 - Mirror Move
LV 34 - Drill Peck
LV 43 - Agility
Tips: Fearow is to Spearow what Pidgeot is to Pidgey. But whereas a Pidgeotto evolves into a Pidgeot at level 36, you can already have a Fearow at level 20. And not only does it evolve earlier, Fearow also beats out Pidgeot in terms of stats in everything but HP. While it can't be taught as many TMs, it does learn Mirror Move much earlier (25) and is able to use the powerful Flying attack Drill Peck at level 34. Unless you're just looking for a Fearow to complete your Pokedex, your best bet is not to evolve your Spearow into a Fearow until it knows Drill Peck. Fearow is one of the fastest Flying Pokemon (it even beats out most of the legendary bird Pokemon at higher levels), so use that advantage against any unfortunate Bug or Grass Pokemon you may encounter. On the downside, Fearow can't learn as many useful attacks as the more spectacular Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.

Ground attacks (like Dig) can't hit Flying Pokemon, but beware of Ground/Rock types. Rock Slide and Rock Throw, the only two Rock techniques in the game, are very effective against Flying Pokemon. But the quickest way to take down a Flying Pokemon is to use an Electric Pokemon. There is virtually no way an equal-level Flying type emerges victorious from a lightning battle.

This Pokémon can learn the following HMs and TMs:
TM 02 - Razor Wind
TM 04 - Whirlwind
TM 06 - Toxic
TM 09 - Take Down
TM 10 - Double Edge
TM 15 - Hyper Beam
TM 20 - Rage
TM 31 - Mimic
TM 32 - Double Team
TM 34 - Bide
TM 39 - Swift
TM 43 - Sky Attack
TM 44 - Rest
TM 50 - Substitute
HM 02 - Fly
Offense
Advantage: Grass, Fighting, Bug
Disadvantage: Electric, Rock
Defense
Advantage:
Ground, Grass, Fighting, Bug
Disadvantage: Electric, Ice, Rock
Origin: Aside from the fact that first syllable is the word "fear", the most likely origin for this bird Pokemon's name is a combination of different bird names, like sparrow, eagle, finch, pheasant etc. Incidentally, it looks like a mixture of a crane and a heron, but hey, nobody said all the names have to make sense, right?
