Botanical Description

Height to 35cm or more when fully mature. Leaves oblong to ovate, up to 25cm long, arching, deep green. Flowers several opening together usually when the leaves are still very immature, purple, lilac or white, the upper petal obovate, mucronate, to 4.5cm long, the lip bilobed, to 4.5cm long, deflexed, early to mid-summer. China, Yunnan and Sichuan; 2900-3800m. A yellow-flowered variant has been reported from the wild. [Pl.427].
