Botanical Description

Height about 30cm at flowering, sometimes less, lengthening later. Leaves linear to lanceolate, 10-40cm long. Flowers one to three open together, yellow, the upper petal obovate, mucronate, 2-3.8cm long, the lip 2.6-4cm long, deflexed, late spring. China, Yunnan and Sichuan, in open meadows and partially forested slopes at 2130-3350m. R.c. 'Grandiflora' is a strong-growing variant with larger flowers. Purple and white-flowered forms are known in the wild.
