Botanical Description

A member of section Crystallophlomis (Nivales) from N. China. Leaf-blades suberect, narrowly obovate, shortly farinose-dentate with a striking margin of white farina beneath, narrowing to a greenish petiole. Flowers pale to mid-lilac with a darker eye, 20 mm diameter, flat-faced, borne one-sidedly on a mealy stem equalling the leaves. China; N. Sichuan, Gansu and Qinghai. Damp grassy slopes on limestone, 3700-4300m. Short-lived in cultivation but can be maintained in pots if seed is kept; keep cool in summer and under cover in winter. Good in shady troughs.
