Botanical Description

Tufted and low cushion to mat-forming, 15-30cm across by about 5cm tall, sometimes more. Leaves ternate, the leaflets 5-10mm long, obovate to oblanceolate, usually with a few apical teeth, silvery-grey hairy. Flowers solitary or in pairs, 2-2.5cm in diameter, pale pink to rose-red, rarely white, mid to late summer. South-western and southeastern Alps to northern Apennines, amongst limestone rocks less and screes up to 3200m. A desirable species but needs plenty of sun to flower well.
