Hieracium Species in
Hieracium
Family: Asteraceae

About 250 species of perennials from temperate regions, mainly the northern hemisphere. They are tufted to clump-forming, sometimes stoloniferous, with lanceolate to linear obovate leaves and flowerheads composed entirely of ray florets (like those of a dandelion).

Uses

Apart from some of the more compact species described here this is a rather weedy genus too large or too invasive for the rock garden. Ordinary well drained to rather poor soil is best and either full sun or partial shade. Propagation by seed or division in spring.
