Botanical Description

Bulbs ovoid, forming small clumps. Stems 20-30cm tall. Leaves narrowly linear, somewhat shorter than the stems by 1.5mm wide. Flowers bell-shaped, about 1cm long, usually red-purple but also in paler shades, in rounded umbels or up to forty, summer. California, Coast Ranges and foothills of Sierra Nevada, in woodland and grassland on clay soils up to about 800m. Best in the alpine house or bulb frame.
